                        1. Standup: designing a nice clean eleven_ty theme with NetlifyCMS integration to help y’all have a nice blog if you don’t have time to build one. No blockers.

eleven_ty NetlifyCMS I’ve had a little muck around in a CodePen project. Looking alright so far.

Video alt: Blog post with a nice, big serif heading, hairline heading summary and lots of whitespace. The browser is scrolled to show an image that bleeds out and some other nice content styles, such as a fancy link underline effect.

And hell yeh I dogfood my own CSS tricks. The bleed image is a modified version of this: andy-bell.design/wrote/creating-a-full-bleed-css-utility/

I had a little time to give this another pass today. Fresh eyes ftw.

Video alt: The same design but with a nicer serif font, better colours and the addition of a site header and the start of a footer. The post now has a hero section that is a pastel pink colour.

Some more evolution. Video shows a homepage with little intro section and post feed, a pagination page which is similar and a nice progressive enhancement of a drop-cap if the ::first-letter pseudo-selector is supported. Good ol’ declarative, forgiving CSS.

I think I’ll probably stick a fork in this prototype and start making the actual theme now.

POLL: Comments. Something that should be easy to add manually, or a nice solution baked in to the static site generation? (Netlify setup)

A cool thing about this theme is that all of the design tokens are in a little eleven_ty data file which will be hooked up to NetlifyCMS, so if you wanna change stuff, you don't have to touch the Sass 🚀

eleven_ty NetlifyCMS It's yellow now and has a name, "Hylia" and one of my favourite 30 minute logos. I'm aiming to get a beta/early version out this week 🎉

eleven_ty NetlifyCMS You get a style guide for free, too, so if you do want to extend it, you know what tokens you've got for: - Colour - Type - Spacing
