          1. I'm at the early stages of burnout, pals so I thought I'd share what I'm feeling right now, because that's to plenty of experience being burnt out: the warning signs are screaming at me. Here’s a thread 👇

The first thing that triggers my warning system is apathy. I am feeling increasingly apathetic at the moment. I'm a pretty cynical person in general, but there's a point when I notice my own apathy and that's when I know I need to act. The pandemic has been *brutal* for this.

Next up: I'm struggling for energy. I'm an annoying morning person—partly because I have young children, but also, I like to get up and do things during the day. A warning sign for me is struggling to get up in the morning and talking myself out of exercise, which is happening.

Last up: overwhelm. I’m struggling to prioritise work I don't love doing which when you run your own business, accounts for quite a bit. Thankfully, everything is in my bullet journal, so in all honesty, I'm not worrying too much about this. A lot I can defer, too, luckily.

They're the 3 main warning signs for me and the quicker I act, the less damage is caused. The winter break is coming up, so that's my aim now. I’ve also just finished some large pieces of work, which always open the door to burnout for me, because I push myself way too hard.

How I'll tackle this recent bout is from now until around 18th of December—which is when I’m penned to “break up”—I’ll take the foot off the gas. Luckily, I’ve not got much client stuff, so I’ll purely work on piccalilli stuff, which always makes me happy. (prolly side project)

Lastly, I'm making myself have at least 3 weeks off over xmas. I haven't really had a holiday this year, or really any time off. That's my own fault. In summary, I'm lucky that I know the burnout signs, so I'm acting now. If these sound familiar to you, you could be burning out

If that all sounds familiar, take care of yourself and if it helps, I've written a bit about this in the past: 1. hankchizljaw.com/wrote/burnout/ 2. hankchizljaw.com/wrote/burnout-a-long-recovery/ Be kind to yourself 💜
